Frequently Asked Questions
So how does this competitive hike work?
It's kind of like a Rogaine, if you know what that is.
You'll be supplied with a map of the area with checkpoints (also known as controls) marked on it.
Your team will have six hours to get to as many checkpoints as you possibly can, and then get back to the Hash House (Rose Park Norwood Scout Hall).
Each checkpoint is worth between 20 and 90 points (just look at the checkpoint number), so it can sometimes be better to go for the higher point checkpoints than getting more of them.
At each checkpoint (which is a church or other place of worship) you'll have to answer a question to get the points. You'll get handed the clue sheet and question sheet with your maps.
Also, be wary of the time! You lose 10 points for every minute that you are late back!
How many people can I have in my team?
Teams can be between 2-6 people. We'd recommend no larger - in that case, split into two teams
We want to enter! How do we do that?
Your team will need to send us a Team Entry Form prior to the event. These should be posted/emailed to us by May 4th.
Payment ahead of time (cheques payable to "GRovers Rover Crew") is appreciated but not essential. Paying on the day is fine.
We need to know if you have a team coming - we will have maps/clue sheets to print, and we want to make sure there are enough for everyone!
Even if your team members aren't finalised, please email us to let us know you are coming!
What will I need to bring with me on the day
Every participant will need to complete an A4 Standard Application (if over 18) or a Y4 Parent Advice form, signed by your parents (if under 18). You can get blank copies of these forms from ERICA, or ask your Scout/Venturer/Crew Leader
You will also need:
- Water bottle/camelback
- Snacks, Lunch (or you can buy them from the many shops on the course)
- Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
- Pens, pencils, highlighters
- Comfortable walking clothes and shoes
- A compass may come in handy, but isn't required as we're in the suburbs
- A small backpack to carry everything!
Your team will need:
- At least one small first aid kit
- At least one mobile phone.
What are the trophies we can win?
We will have three perpetual trophies to hand out:
- Winning Rover or Mixed Rover/Venturer Team ("The Boots")
- Winning Venturer Team
- Handbag Award (for the team who gave their best effort but came nowhere close to winning)

A few photos from the checkpoints... note that these do not give any of the answers away!
