On Saturday 22nd October, GRovers organised and ran “Reformation” the 2005 Rover/Venturer Competitive Hike. The event was sponsored by The Scout Outdoor Centre. The competitive hike entails Venturers, Rovers and Leaders plotting a course with a map and then spending 6 hours collecting checkpoints or ‘controls’ worth different points. The team back at the end with the highest point score wins. This year’s Competitive Hike was held at Mount George near Woodhouse Scout activity Centre. 8 teams participated on the day comprising a total of 28 people. Happy Valley leaders and Venturers, Kintaro Venturers, Mt Lofty Venturers, Aesir Rovers, Overs (ex-GRovers), Lyndoch Venturers, and Blackburn Rovers were all there with fighting force! A huge thank you to all those that supported this event. The numbers were down on previous years which we believe was due to timing. After 6 hours - 3 teams having to be collected by car, but no major injuries, we held a BBQ and award cermony. Congratulations to the Overs team who took out first place with a massive score of 1000! At BRC GRovers announced that we would not run this event next year. However, there is already some talk in our camp that we will actually do it again, but much earlier in the year when perhaps more people would be interested in coming along. So maybe the name for next year’s competitive hike will be 'Reformation resurrected.' | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
